Greenhouse Heating System Checklist

The unavoidable will soon be upon us; heating season!  As unpleasant as it may be for all growers, winter is a fact of life and it must be considered long before the snow flies.  Heating costs during the cold winter months are of prime concern for many greenhouse growers. Here is a quick checklist to maximise the efficiency of your greenhouse heating system:

Construction Management

So, you have decided to build a new greenhouse range.  Presumably, you have arrived at this decision based on market demands, corporate growth projections, assessed production needs, and financial capabilities.

The acquisition of a constructed facility usually represents a significant capital investment.  It also usually represents a significant time investment of management.  For this reason the construction process should be kept in mind at the early stages of planning and programming.

But not all expansion projects are created equal, and growth for growths sake is never a good idea. Here are a few tips to check to see if your expansion motivations fall on the good side of growing or not.

An Introduction to Greenhouse Hydroponics for Potted Plants

Hydroponics is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions in water. This is accomplished without soil, either putting the roots directly into the water, as is common with lettuce pools, or rooted in a medium, such as perlite, rockwool, or coconut husks, which is more common for potted plants. Because the nutrients are dissolved in water, they go directly to the roots. Soil can provide a buffer, with hydroponics the roots get exactly what is put into solution.
